Motivation & Financial/Non-financial incentives
-Motivation is the drives, desires, needs within the
individual
-Taylor believed that workers were motivated by financial incentives (money)
-Maslow believed there is a hierarchy of needs and once the lower levels of the hierarchy are met ie survival and security then workers are motivated by the need to be part of a social group, self esteem and self actualisation
-Hertzberg belived that hygiene factors such as pay and conditions did not motivate but would demotivate if not adequate. He believe workers were motivated by non financial factors such as responsibility, empowerment and job enrichment

-Remember
that financial incentives are expensive to the company, and may not be affordable for small/new companies.
Also do they really motivate ? Yes according to Taylor. However Hertzberg believe the non financial
incentives such as enrichment and responsibility are the ways to get the best from staff.
